Gilbert Holles, 3rd Earl of Clare (24 April 1633 – 16 January 1689) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1660. He was styled Lord Haughton from 1637 until he succeeded to the title Earl of Clare in 1666.
The death of the young Gilbert de Clare, Earl of Gloucester, at the Battle of Bannockburn (1314) entailed the break-up of the Honour of Clare, as he and his young wife were childless and the lands were distributed among three co-heiresses.

John was a son of Gilbert Holles, 3rd Earl of Clare, and his wife Grace (Pierrepont). He succeeded his father as Earl in 1689. While stag hunting at his home at Welbeck Abbey he was thrown from his horse and died.

Gilbert Holles, 3rd Earl of Clare (1633-1688/9) was the son of John Holles, 2nd Earl of Clare and Hon. Elizabeth de Vere. He married Grace Pierrepont, daughter of Hon. William Pierrepont and Elizabeth Harries, on 9 July 1655 at St. Gile's-in-the-Fields Church, London, England. They had 7 Children.
