Thomas de Hartmann’s musical output consists of some 90 works written in the classical idiom, 53 film scores and several hundred pieces of sacred music from the East composed for piano in collaboration with George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff (1877-1949).
Greek-Armenian spiritual teacher G. I. Gurdjieff (c.1866-1949) wrote a diverse collection of over 200 piano pieces at his ‘Institute for the Harmonious Development of Man’ at the Chateau du Prieuré d’Avon at Fontainebleau near Paris in a unique collaboration with pupil Thomas de Hartmann, a Ukrainian composer.
