Curtis Ousley (born Curtis Montgomery; February 7, 1934 – August 13, 1971), [1] known professionally as King Curtis, was an American saxophonist who played rhythm and blues, jazz, and rock and roll. A bandleader, band member, and session musician, he was also a musical director and record producer.
King Curtis ( Curtis Ousley, Fort Worth, de Texas, 7 de febrero de 1934- Nueva York, 13 de agosto de 1971) fue un músico estadounidense de soul jazz, southern soul, R&B y hard bop, saxofonista tenor. Su carrera se truncó a los 37 años cuando fue asesinado a manos de unos fanáticos del crack, politoxicómanos.
Saxophonist King Curtis, known as the "Fifth Coaster," was fatally stabbed by two drug addicts outside his apartment building in 1971. Cornelius Gunter was murdered in a Las Vegas parking garage in 1990.

King Curtis was a wonderful saxophonist and was in hot demand and had made 26 albums under his own name by this period with "Yackety Yak" which he did with The Coasters giving him his first break.
