South Boston High School was a public high school located in South Boston, Massachusetts, United States. It was part of Boston Public Schools. The school closed in 2003, and its former facility is currently occupied by Excel High School. History. South Boston High School was built on Telegraph Hill in Dorchester Heights in 1901.
South Boston High School is a location in the South Boston neighborhood of Boston in 2287. Built adjacent to the Dorchester Height monument, this school has seen better days, and has been taken over by a gang of raiders.[1]
On January 21, 1976, 1,300 black and white students fought each other at Hyde Park High, and at South Boston High on February 15, anti-busing activists organized marches under a parade permit from the Andrew Square and Broadway MBTA Red Line stations which would meet and end at South Boston High.
Though racial segregation was not codified by law in Boston, as it was in many Southern cities, it was an unofficial policy in the city, one reinforced by the Boston School Committee’s districting decisions and stark residential segregation.
