Mabel Lucy Hackney (1872 – 29 May 1914) was a British actress and the wife of the dramatist and actor Laurence Irving and daughter-in-law of the actor Henry Irving in whose company she acted before she joined that of her husband.
Mabel Lucy Hackney nació en 1886 en Londres, Inglaterra, y fue la única hija de una familia de clase media. Desde joven, mostró un gran interés en la pintura y en la fotografía, lo que la llevó a estudiar en la prestigiosa Royal Academy of Arts de Londres.
Irving was married to a fellow performer, actress Mabel Lucy Hackney (1872–1914). Laurence and Mabel were on a tour of first Australia and then North America from 1912 to 1914. Their biggest success on the tour was Laurence's own play The Typhoon .
2 de mar. de 2020 · It happens that Mabel was a cowgirl who performed with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show, then married cowboy and showman Charles Tompkins and retired in El Reno, Oklahoma. El Reno is about 30 miles west of Oklahoma City, a significant key to Ed Fay’s story.

Laurence Irving and Mabel Hackney died in the sinking of the Empress of Ireland in the St Lawrence River on 29 May 1914. The story of their tour of Canada and last hours on the ship is recounted by Denis Salter in the June 2003 edition of First Knight.
