Manfred Wekwerth (né Weckwerth; 3 December 1929 – 16 July 2014) was a German theatre and film director and writer. He was the director of the Berliner Ensemble theatre from 1977 to 1991. He was also an informant for East Germany 's Stasi from 1965 until the German reunification .

From 1982 to 1990, Manfred Werkwerth was the president of the East German Academy of Arts and from 1986 to 1989, a member of the Central Committee of the ruling Socialist Unity Party.
Manfred Wekwerth was born on 3 December 1929 in Köthen, Germany. He was a director and writer, known for Mother Courage and Her Children (1961), Mother (1958) and Katzgraben (1957). He was married to Renate Richter. He died on 16 July 2014 in Berlin, Germany.
