The film is based on the life and work of Charlotte Salomon, a young Jewish painter from Berlin, who took refuge in Nice during the war, and died in Auschwitz. Composed of almost 1000 gouaches and texts, with poetic as well as naïve qualities, this film is a strong and singular work.

Synopsis. Née à Berlin en 1917 dans une famille juive cultivée, Charlotte Salomon fut doublement marquée par le suicide de sa mère et celui de sa grand-mère quelques années plus tard. Un destin tragique aggravé par l’antisémitisme ambiant, la montée du nazisme et la guerre.
