Oskar Baum (21 January 1883 – 20 March 1941) was a Czech music educator and writer in the German language. Life. Baum was born on 21 January 1883 in Pilsen, as the son of a Jewish cloth goods merchant. He had vision problems from the time of his birth.

Der einzige Sohn Leo (geb. 1909) starb am 22. Juli 1946 beim Bombenanschlag einer jüdischen Terrorgruppe auf das King David Hotel in Jerusalem. Oskar Baum wurde im Herbst 1904 mit Franz Kafka durch Max Brod bekanntgemacht; aus der Begegnung entwickelte sich eine lebenslange Freundschaft.
The blind poet Oskar Baum was a member of the Prague Circle of German-speaking Jewish writers in the first decades of the twentieth century as well as a particularly close friend of Franz Kafka, to whom the author read his early drafts of “The Metamorphosis” and other manuscripts.
