Paul Merker (1 February 1894 – 13 May 1969) was an activist member of Germany's Communist Party (KPD / Kommunistische Partei Deutschlands) who later became a politician and a top official of East Germany's ruling SED (Socialist Unity Party of Germany/Sozialistische Einheitspartei Deutschlands).

Paul Merker. February 01, 1894 - May 13, 1969. Paul Merker, a waiter, joined the German Communist Party (KPD) in 1920. He was a member of the Prussian State Parliament between 1924 and 1932 and a member of the Central Committee of the KPD from 1934 to 1946.
