  1. 15 de abr. de 2020 · It is speculated that the serum proteins that bind to PS on the outer membrane leaflet of RBCs pass through the membrane via unknown mechanisms. Vitronectin does not contain this domain, but rather forms a complex with thrombin in serum [ 42 ] and may be taken up as the complex.

  2. 7 de ene. de 2004 · The human malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports the ATP-binding cassette protein PfGCN20 to membrane structures in the host red blood cell. Molecular and Biochemical Parasitology. 1998; 97 :81–95.

  3. 28 de may. de 2011 · In modifying the host RBC membrane the malaria parasite moves specific proteins from the parasite cytoplasm across the parasite plasma membrane and the parasitophorous vacuole (PV) membrane into the RBC cytoplasm.

  4. 1 de abr. de 2022 · Merozoite attachment alters the biomechanics of the RBC membrane. Evolution has selected for mutations affecting RBC biomechanics to combat malaria. A critical step in malaria blood-stage infections is the invasion of red blood cells (RBCs) by merozoite forms of the Plasmodium parasite.

  5. In this review we explore how Plasmodium falciparum merozoites interact with the RBC membrane during invasion to modulate RBC deformability and facilitate invasion. We further highlight RBC biomechanics-related polymorphisms that might have been selected for in human populations due to their ability to reduce parasite invasion.

  6. Many biological processes signal through RBC membrane to influence RBC membrane deformability, namely by altering the vertical and/or horizontal stability of the RBC cytoskeleton or changing the composition of the lipid bilayer.

  7. However, less well understood are the RBC biophysical determinants that influence parasite invasion. In this review we explore how Plasmodium falciparum merozoites interact with the RBC membrane during invasion to modulate RBC deformability and facilitate invasion.
