Nicholas David Skelton CBE (born 30 December 1957, Bedworth, Warwickshire) is a British former equestrian who competed in show jumping. He retired at the age of 59 years old, on 5 April 2017. He began riding at age 18 months and in 1975 took two team silvers and an individual gold at the Junior European Championships.

Nick, being loyal, said he’d promised the horse to Tony Elliot who eventually put his whole string up for sale when he ran into money problems.
His dam sire is the legendary Grannus, one Germany's greatest sires with over five million DM in earnings, he is also the sire a multiple international and Olympic jumpers, including Top Gun La Silla(Jan Tops), Grand Plaisir(Ludger Beerbaum), Grannusch(John Witaker), Burmah Grand Slam (Nick Skelton) and Imperial to name a few.
Big Star is one of the world's top showjumping horses with numerous high profile wins including two Olympic Gold titles under the renowned rider, Nick Skelton. Nick himself has referred to Big Star as "the best horse I have ever ridden".
