15 de nov. de 2022 · The Caribbean is a region situated to the southeast of the North American mainland and the Gulf of Mexico, north of South America, and east of Central America. Currently, the Caribbean region comprises 13 sovereign countries and many territories/dependencies that are a part of other nations.
Physiographically, the Caribbean region is mainly a chain of islands surrounding the Caribbean Sea. To the north, the region is bordered by the Gulf of Mexico, the Straits of Florida and the Northern Atlantic Ocean, which lies to the east and northeast.
The Caribbean region of Colombia or Caribbean coast region is in the north of Colombia and is mainly composed of 8 departments located contiguous to the Caribbean. It's the second most populated region in the country after Andean Region with approximately 11 million residents according to the Colombian Census 2018. [2]
