METZENBAUM, MYRON, M.D. (1 April 1876-25 Jan. 1944), ear, nose and throat specialist at Mt. Sinai Hospital (see MT. SINAI MEDICAL CENTER ), designed the surgical scissors which bear his name. He was a national authority in reconstructive surgery.
22 de dic. de 2020 · Metzenbaum died suddenly at the age of 68 from a heart attack. Throughout his career he exhibited empathy, innovation, diligence and probity as a doctor. His legacy is evidently much more than the scissors with which everybody associates his name.

A native of Ohio, Myron Metzenbaum (1876–1944) attended medical school at Case Western Reserve. During his first week of medical school, Metzenbaum serendipitously encountered Dr George Crile, who was searching for a volunteer to live in the hospital and be available to administer ether anesthesia to trauma patients.

Metzenbaum scissors are surgical scissors designed for cutting delicate tissue and blunt dissection. The scissors come in variable lengths and have a relatively high shank-to-blade ratio. They are constructed of stainless steel and may have tungsten carbide cutting surface inserts.
