1 de ago. de 2016 · These new observations extend some of the known depths and locations of the abyssal fish fauna, such as the Macrouridae and Ophidiidae further into the hadal zone. In the case of the zoarcid and syn aphobranchid species this represent their first recorded hadal occurrence.

Only a relatively small number of fish species are known from the hadal zone, including certain grenadiers, cutthroat eels, pearlfish, cusk-eels, snailfish and eelpouts.
Officially, the hadal zone occurs in areas where one tectonic plate subducts beneath another; where the topography of the vast abyssal plains suddenly plunges to depths of nearly 11 km below sea level.

3 de mar. de 2009 · Using baited camera landers, the first images of living fishes were recorded in the hadal zone (6000–11 000 m) in the Pacific Ocean. The widespread abyssal macrourid Coryphaenoides yaquinae was observed at a new depth record of approximately 7000 m in the Japan Trench.
