Students majoring in Communication Studies will learn to analyze organizational, cultural, interpersonal and mass media communication. Students in Communication Studies learn to evaluate and produce communicative texts that adapt to changing situations and audiences. As a result, the undergraduate curriculum in this major rigorously prepares students for future work and study in any number of diverse fields, such as law, political organizing and public affairs, marketing, advertising, public relations, consulting and many others.
Bent was a senior editor at American Theatre magazine from 2006-2015. Bent’s writing has appeared in Time Out New York, the Village Voice, HEEB, the Brooklyn Rail, TDF’s online magazine Stages, Emergency INDEX, and ELLE. Bent has a BA in philosophy and an MFA in playwriting from Brooklyn College.

Radio/Television/Film. The Department of Radio/Television/Film explores the history, theory, and production of media—from cinema to television to sound design to interactive media and emerging technologies. We value originality, critical analysis, creativity, diversity, and vision in both scholarly research and creative work.
Students have ample opportunity to take what they learn in the classroom and apply that knowledge to their own creative and scholarly pursuits. Be it professional-level theatrical or filmmaking work, a DJ gig at WNUR or improv onstage, the out-of-class learning experience is highly collaborative and paves the way for post-collegiate success.
