Mustin moved to California in the 1950s and soon made his way into film and television. He quickly became a fixture in both, appearing in nearly 170 productions over the next 25 years. Despite a long list of one-off roles and quirky recurring characters, Mustin is best remembered as Gus the Fireman on the long-running family comedy "Leave It to Beaver."

Burt Mustin (February 8, 1884 - January 28, 1977) played Jud Fletcher and other characters on The Andy Griffith Show. He also appeared on Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C., Mayberry R.F.D. and "The New Andy Griffith Show". Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was best known as a regular on Leave It To Beaver TV series 1957 to 1962, in the role as Gus the fireman. He graduated from the Pennsylvania Military College in 1903 with a degree in in civil engineering.
