Son of Dracula is stuck in between, trying to wrap a noir inside Dracula’s cloak. Lon Chaney Jr. is wooden enough to drive a stake through his own heart, and Robert Paige mostly just runs around looking shell-shocked. Even the femme fatale Louise Allbritton isn’t given enough to do.
Son of Dracula was a film made in 1943. Rather than a true sequel to Dracula and Dracula's Daughter (1936), it appears to be a continuity reboot, with Count Dracula's backstory adhering a bit closer to Bram Stoker's original novel than those two films. Lon Chaney Jr. plays Count Alucard, alias Dracula, who is implied to be the son of the Dracula rather than the man himself.
