Christopher Nolan urodził się w Londynie w 1970 roku. Filmy zaczął kręcić w wieku siedmiu lat, kiedy jego ojciec kupił mu kamerę 8 mm. Studiował literaturę angielską na University College London, tam też zaczął kręcić filmy kamerą 16 mm w ramach działalności w studenckim środowisku filmowym.
