Mary Poppins is een kinderjuffrouw in Londen, anno 1908. Mary Poppins is vrij conventioneel van uiterlijk, buitenshuis altijd met paraplu, maar onderscheidt zich door de magische krachten die ze vooral inzet bij de uitoefening van haar functie als kinderjuffrouw. Overigens dient haar paraplu ook als magisch transportmiddel.

MARY SHEPARD (1910-2000) was the daughter of Ernest Shepard, illustrator of the Winnie the Pooh books and The Wind in the Willows. She illustrated P. L. Travers's Mary Poppins books for more than fifty years.

It was originally released in 1999 by Hodder Headline to positive reviews and was short-listed for the Kibble Awards.
First published in 1934, Mary Poppins is the first in a series of books that are much darker than the popular musical it inspired. This omnibus edition contains all six original Mary Poppins stories: Mary Poppins, Mary Poppins Comes Back, Mary Poppins Opens the Door, Mary Poppins in the Park, Mary Poppins in Cherry Tree Lane / Mary Poppins and the House Next Door
Two books are missing - Mary Poppins From A to Z (1962); & Mary Poppins in the Kitchen (1975). There is no mention in the volume as to why these are left out, or that they even exist. It was very disappointing to discover that I had, in fact, only purchased 3/4 of Mary Poppins, and that I bought it in soft cover and kindle editions before I discovered it was incomplete.
