El Califato de Sokoto fue un califato independiente islámico suní en África Occidental que fue fundado durante la yihad de la Guerra Fulaní en 1804 por Usman dan Fodio. [1] Los límites del califato se extendía por los actuales Camerún, Burkina Faso, Níger y Nigeria.
The Sokoto Caliphate (Arabic: دولة الخلافة في بلاد السودان), also known as the Sultanate of Sokoto, was a Sunni Muslim caliphate in West Africa. It was founded by Usman dan Fodio in 1804 during the Fulani jihads after defeating the Hausa Kingdoms in the Fulani War.

Para ello nos tenemos que dirigir a lo que hoy es el norte de Nigeria y ver cómo se produjo un ambiente de tensión entre los pobladores del Sahel con los líderes locales ya que estos vendían esclavos a Europa.
