His only child who survived into adulthood, Robert Todd Lincoln, had several children and grandchildren. However, the last of the president’s direct descendants, including his great-grandson Robert Todd Lincoln Beckwith, died in 1985.

The Robert Todd Lincoln collectioN contains two letters written by Lincoln and five documents signed by Lincoln as President James Garfield’s Secretary of War. One letter, dating from 1894 and addressed to “Mrs. Washburn,” is written on stationary from “The Temple, Chicago,” presumably the Masonic Temple Building.
Robert Todd Lincoln is buried with his wife, the former Mary Eunice Harlan, whom he married in 1868. In April 1927, Mary Harlan Lincoln and the Fine Arts Commission selected noted American sculptor James Earle Fraser to design a memorial on the south slope of the cemetery.
