21 de abr. de 2023 · Earp immediately left Wichita, following his brother James to Dodge City, Kansas, where his brother's wife, Bessie, and Earp's common-law wife, Sally, operated a brothel. He later became an assistant city marshal. In late 1878, he went to Texas to track down an outlaw and met John "Doc" Holliday, whom Earp credited with saving his life.
Earp later claimed to spend the years 1873 and 1874 on a buffalo hunt, though there is no evidence of him actually doing so. With Peoria no longer hospitable to him he and Sally – who called herself Sarah Earp, traveled to Wichita, where his brother James Earp operated yet another brothel, arriving in the booming cattle town in 1874.
12 de jun. de 2006 · James Earp had tended bar for ‘Uncle Bob’ Winders in Fort Worth during the late 1870s, and Winders himself was a partner of the Earp brothers in several mining ventures. Rickabaugh’s partner, Bill Harris, was an old-time saloon man from Dodge City and well acquainted with Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday.
