Joan Bennett Kennedy (* 2. September 1936 in Riverdale, New York (Bundesstaat) als Virginia Joan Bennett) war von 1958 bis 1982 die Ehefrau von Senator Edward Kennedy. Joan Bennett was a fey, wide-eyed 21-year-old - with what her friends describe as "a breezy charm" - when she met Ted Kennedy, the dashing and eligible bachelor brother of her schoolfriend, Jean.
Her parents were Harry Wiggin Bennett Jr. (1907–1981), and Virginia Joan Stead (1911–1976). Her father was a graduate of Cornell University and later worked as an advertising executive. Bennett grew up with one younger sister, Candace "Candy," (born 1938). She attended Manhattanville College (then a Sacred Heart college), in Purchase, New York.
