Twister was shot on location in Oklahoma, the Southern US state where the story is set. This was at the insistence of director Jan De Bont; originally the plan had been to shoot in California and the UK. Given the film’s subject matter it was only appropriate that it feature appearances from a number of real-life local TV weather reporters.
Directed by Jan de Bont, Twister (1996) stars Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Cary Elwes, and Philip Seymour Hoffman. It's kind of funny that the original tag-line for the film was going to be "It sucks" but the producers felt that it worked too much to the advantage of disappointed audiences and critics.
