Sir William Hay was a member of the aristocracy in British Isles. William Hay, 17th Earl of Erroll [1] William Hay, 17th Earl of Erroll known as Lord Hay until 1778, was a Scottish peer. [1] Erroll was the son of James Hay, 15th Earl of Erroll and his second wife, Isabella Carr. [1] He was born at Lonmay, Aberdeenshire, in 1772.

William Hay, 1st Earl of Erroll was the son of Gilbert of the Haye and Alice Hay.1 He married Lady Beatrix Douglas, daughter of James Douglas, 7th Earl of Douglas and Beatrice Sinclair, circa 17 March 1449/50.2 He died on 15 November 1461.1.
Biography. William Hay was the son of William Hay, 3rd Earl of Erroll.He had double royal lineage: his grandfather, William Hay, 1st Earl of Erroll was a great-great grandson of King Robert II of Scotland; and his maternal grandfather was James I of Scotland. He served as the Lord High Constable of Scotland, a hereditary title that was, after the king, the supreme officer of the Scottish army.

James Hay, 15th Earl of Erroll (20 April 1726 – 3 July 1778) styled Lord Boyd from 1728 to 1746, was a Scottish nobleman and the son of William Boyd, 4th Earl of Kilmarnock. [i] After his father was attainted in 1746, he became Mr James Boyd, but in 1758 he inherited the Earldom of Erroll from a great-aunt.
