Wonka ist ein Spielfilm von Paul King, der im Verleih von Warner Bros. Pictures ist. Der Film ist als Prequel zu der bereits mehrfach verfilmten Handlung des Kinderbuchs Charlie und die Schokoladenfabrik von Roald Dahl gedacht und erzählt vom Leben des jungen Willy Wonka, gespielt von Timothée Chalamet.Weltpremiere war am 28. November 2023 in der Londoner Royal Festival Hall.
Johnny Depp's portrayal of Willy Wonka polarized critics and audiences. Critic Andrew Sarris, of The New York Observer, who did not enjoy the film's style in general, wrote "I wonder if even children will respond to the peculiarly humorless and charmless stylistic eccentricities of Mr. Burton and his star, Johnny Depp."

Willy Wonka is portrayed by Johnny Depp in this remake. However, many changes were put into the character: He acts childish because of his troubled childhood, and therefore does not take any interest in the kids or their parents. He is also the protagonist in a backstory, where his father forbids him to eat candy.
Johnny Depp, habitué à travailler avec Tim Burton (comme Edward Scissorhands, par exemple) [6], s'est inspiré de plusieurs personnages réels pour camper le rôle de Willy Wonka dans son film. Dans cette optique il s'inspire d' Howard Hughes connu pour son excentricité et sa maniaquerie mais aussi d' Harold Lloyd et de Marilyn Manson pour la référence contemporaine [ 7 ] .
