There's no plot to speak of, it's essentially sold on the idea of seeing as many big names in one place as possible - names like Joan Crawford, Norma Shearer, Laurel & Hardy, John Gilbert, and an early-career Jack Benny as Master of Ceremonies.
The Hollywood Revue of 1929 was the first movie of its kind, similar to the stage extravaganzas of Florenz Ziegfeld and George White.
