Robert Koch. (Klausthal, 1843 - Baden-Baden, 1910) Bacteriólogo alemán galardonado con el Premio Nobel. Descubrió la bacteria productora del ántrax o carbunco y la bacteria productora de la tuberculosis. Se le considera, junto a Louis Pasteur, el padre de la bacteriología, y el que sentó las bases de la microbiología médica moderna.

In 1891, Koch was appointed director of the newly-founded Royal Prussian Institute for Infectious Diseases, today’s Robert Koch Institute. For his discovery of the tuberculosis bacterium he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1905. Together with Louis Pasteur, Robert Koch is now thought of as the pioneer of microbiology.
