Hace 3 días · In 1740 Ripley sold the house for £5,000 to the second occupant, the second Baron Conway, later first Earl and first Marquess of Hertford. Despite later alterations, the decent but unadventurous street elevation that might have been expected from the architect of the Admiralty in Whitehall is still visible (Plate 9a, fig. 15).
Hace 3 días · Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (Franz August Karl Albert Emanuel; [1] 26 August 1819 – 14 December 1861) was the husband of Queen Victoria. As such, he was consort of the British monarch from their marriage on 10 February 1840 until his death in 1861. Victoria granted him the title Prince Consort in 1857.
Hace 5 días · The park appears to have been enjoyed by the citizens from that date to 1787, when the Prince of Wales granted a 31-year lease to Francis Seymour-Conway, styled Viscount Beauchamp, later Marquess of Hertford (d. 1822), who was thus able to gratify a personal feud with the inhabitants.
Hace 3 días · In 1802 Bird and Peter Moore were narrowly beaten by the Tories Jefferys and Capt. Francis Barlow, who were given corporation support. Barlow was a magistrate in Yorkshire. A Commons committee found, however, that Jefferys was not properly qualified and Moore won the seat at a by-election.
