The four rooms of change have their origins in the psychologist and researcher Claes Janssen's research that shows how an individual or a group travels through different states in change processes.
The Four Rooms of Change originates from Claes Janssen, Ph.D., research project 1964-1975. The title of his thesis was Personal Dialectics: Self-censors, Outsiders, and Integration. It is here that the Four Rooms of Change model and all its psycho-metrics was first published by Liber Publishers in Sweden.
Claes Janssen, a Swedish social psychologist, saw the individual, the workgroup, the department or even the whole company as living in a four- roomed apartment. The rooms are labelled Contentment, Denial, Confusion and Renewal.
