Sir Lewis Casson was a British actor and theatrical director who was married to the legendary actress Dame Sybil Thorndike. He played a role in modernizing the British theatre, expanding it to embrace social critiques as well as new techniques, and was an advocate for a National Theatre.

CASSON, LEWIS (1875 - 1969), actor and theatrical producer. Born in Birkenhead, Cheshire, 26 October 1875, son of Thomas Casson of Ffestiniog, Meironnydd, and Laura Ann (née Holland-Thomas) his wife.
In the company she met, and formed a lifelong partnership with, the actor Lewis Casson. They married in December 1908 at her father's church. They had two daughters and two sons, all of whom went on the stage for some or all of their careers.
