Back in 1947 Jimmy Heath formed one of his earliest bands – one that featured John Coltrane as a sideman. He played with Charlie Parker and could play his riffs so well that he became known for awhile as 'Little Bird'.
The Heath Brothers was an American jazz group, formed in 1975 in Philadelphia, by the brothers Jimmy (tenor saxophone), Percy (bass), and Albert "Tootie" Heath (drums); and pianist Stanley Cowell. Tony Purrone (guitar) and Mtume (percussion) joined the group later.
11 de nov. de 2009 · The group's longtime pianist Jeb Patton rounds out the ensemble and contributes one of the date's most energetic and modern compositions, "Dusk in the City." Endurance is a sterling example of straight-ahead jazz, as authentic and heartfelt as it gets. Long may the Heath Brothers prosper.
15 de oct. de 2009 · Endurance is the first without Percy, and endurance is certainly the keyword in describing the Heath Brothers. Seven of the nine numbers here are originals by Jimmy. Each player gets many opportunities to shine. Beginning with "Changes," Jimmy's straight-ahead assertive tenor takes charge.
This is masterful music from the brothers’ current working quartet that includes two rising young jazz stars: pianist Jeb Patton and bassist David Wong. “Keeping the swing faith with a time-honored groove.”
