Take Your Partner. Fred's son Spencer is in Australia, and Doris wants to go and see him. Fred puts the company in the red to pay for the trip. Williams at the bank won't extend the overdraught and the bill collectors are at the door.
Unlike the physical comedy of Froggitt, the scripts for The Gaffer were wordy and sardonic and the plots relatively complex, with Moffatt usually managing to outwit at least some of the people who were chasing him for money.

Series finale. The visiting in-laws invite Fred to be a partner in a sheep shearing business in Australia. He is so fed up with the business, he decides to go. He tells the staff to make a co-op and run it themselves. They can buy the business if he does not come back.
