Eddie Lang (born Salvatore Massaro; October 25, 1902 – March 26, 1933) was an American musician who is credited as the father of jazz guitar. During the 1920s, he gave the guitar a prominence it previously lacked as a solo instrument, as part of a band or orchestra, and as accompaniment for vocalists. [2]
Eddie Lang fue el primer guitarrista de jazz de importancia, capaz de integrar la guitarra en las grabaciones de jazz de la década de 1920. Tocó con las bandas de Joe Venuti, Adrian Rollini, Roger Wolfe Kahn y Jean Goldkette, además de trabajar como artista independiente para la radio y para empresas discográficas.
Eddie Lang invented a new guitar style, which included not only rhythmic comping but also single note solos, counter melodies to the soloist, bass lines runs, arpeggios and solo breaks or intros. After hearing his first recordings (with Mound City Blue Blowers or Red McKenzie), a whole generation of banjo players switched to the guitar.
