Oakland Military Institute, formally the Oakland Military Institute College Preparatory Academy, is a charter school run by the California Military Department's Youth and Community Programs Task Force in partnership with the Oakland Unified School District in Oakland, California.
Our program unites strong academics with military leadership training. Civilians and personnel of the California Military Department work hand in hand as full- time administrators, teachers and staff on our campus. Each student becomes a member of the California Cadet Corps (CACC).
History. OMI was founded in 2001 after a hard-fought two-year campaign led by then Oakland Mayor Jerry Brown. Governor Gray Davis helped secure the charter after local school boards rejected it.
