Raymond Benjamin Thomas Hawthorne ONZM (born 3 May 1936) is a New Zealand theatre director, and is regarded as one of the country's most senior performing arts practitioners.

In 1982 he was Director of the National Opera for New Zealand. He directed two landmark operas for the company, Brecht/Weills’ The Rise and Fall of the City of MahagonnyT and Benjamin Britten’s The Turn of the Screw. In 1985 Raymond was appointed Director of Mercury Theatre.
13 de may. de 2024 · Hawthorne was found guilty of two counts of rape, 10 charges of indecent assault and two offences of gross indecency with a child by a jury. He was jailed for 27 years, a term of which he must serve at least two thirds before becoming eligible for release, and handed an additional eight years on licence.
