John Arthur Root, known professionally as Jack Root (May 26, 1876 – June 10, 1963) was an American boxer. He was the first world light heavyweight champion as well as a challenger for the world heavyweight title.
The jackfruit was domesticated independently in the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, as indicated by the Southeast Asian names which are not derived from the Sanskrit roots. It was probably first domesticated by Austronesians in Java or the Malay Peninsula.
Jack Root was the first-ever World Light-Heavyweight Champion. He became a lieutenant in the United States Army during World War I. He also was the boxing instructor at the Arcadian Balloon School. Root later became the President and boxing manager for the famous Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Jack Root. Born Janos Ruthaly on May 26, 1876 in the Czech Republic. Root turned professional in Chicago in 1897 and racked up over 40 wins before losing to George Gardner (TKO by 17) in 1902. He returned with two wins, including a six-round win over Marvin Hart, before vying for the newly created light heavyweight title.
Jack Root was a Czech-born American boxer who won the first Light Heavyweight Championship of the World in 1903. He also served in the army, managed the Olympic Auditorium, and was ranked among the top Light Heavyweights of all time.
