Jacques-Nicolas Billaud-Varenne (French pronunciation: [ʒak nikɔla bijo vaʁɛn]; 23 April 1756 – 3 June 1819), also known as Jean Nicolas or by his nicknames, the Righteous Patriot or the Tiger, was a French lawyer and a major figure in the French Revolution.
Fue un importante orador del club de los jacobinos y diputado por París en la Convención. Fue suya la idea de fechar los acontecimientos y actos púbicos a partir del primer año de la I República francesa (22 de septiembre de 1792) en detrimento del calendario gregoriano.

Biography. Politician of the French Revolution; member of the Jacobin Club, militated for a Republic in the early days of the Revolution; in 1792 elected deputy of Paris to the National Convention, where he demanded the abolition of monarchy and the establishment of a new calendar starting with Year I of the French Republic.
