  1. David Kirkpatrick Este Bruce (February 12, 1898 – December 5, 1977) was an American diplomat, intelligence officer and politician. He served as ambassador to France, the Federal Republic of Germany, and the United Kingdom, the only American to be all three.

  2. During the Truman Administration Ambassador David Bruce served as Assistant Secretary of Commerce, 1947-48; Chief of the Economic Cooperation Administration to France, May 1948-49; United States Ambassador to France, 1949-52; and Under Secretary of State, 1952-53.

  3. Before his appointment to London, he had taken a leading role in administering the Marshall Plan (as Chief of the European Cooperation Administration in Paris, 1948–49) and acted as Ambassador to both France (1949–53) and West Germany (1957–60).
