Major-General Lord Albert Edward Wilfred Gleichen KCVO CB CMG DSO (15 January 1863 – 14 December 1937) was a British courtier and soldier. Early life and family history.

Although of German origin with the hereditary title of Count, Edward Gleichen was very much an Englishman. He was distantly related to Queen Victoria and served as a Page of Honour in the 1870s. He was born on 15 Jan 1863 and was 18 when he joined the Grenadier Guards.
By 12 April 1915, the division marshalled on Salisbury Plain and its newly appointed commander, Major-General Count Edward Gleichen headquartered at Andover. Gleichen's experience included commanding the 15th Brigade in the regular 5th Division during the opening British Expeditionary Force (B.E.F.) campaign of 1914.
