Sir Peter Levin Shaffer CBE (15 May 1926 – 6 June 2016) was an English playwright, screenwriter, and novelist. He is best known for the plays Equus and Amadeus, the latter of which was adapted for the screen by Miloš Forman, with a screenplay by Shaffer, for which he won an Academy Award.

Autor de teatro y guionista inglés, Peter Shaffer ha ganado numerosos premios Tony por obras tan conocidas como Equus (1973) o Amadeus (1979). Shaffer participó en la adaptación cinematográfica de Amadeus en 1984, siendo galardonado con un premio Oscar por su tratamiento del guión.
Peter Shaffer, conocido por sus obras teatrales “Equus” y “Amadeus”, representadas en todo el mundo y llevadas al cine, falleció el 6 de junio de 2016, a los 90 años, en el condado de Cork, en Irlanda, como consecuencia de una neumonía.
