Jean-Luc Ponty es un violinista de jazz contemporáneo francés. Nació en la ciudad de Avranches (Francia) el 29 de septiembre de 1942. Se capacitó como violinista profesional en el Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. Su interés hacia el jazz fue impulsado por la música de Miles Davis y John Coltrane.
