Norfolk Island, external territory of Australia, in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, 1,041 miles northeast of Sydney. The island is about 5 miles long and 3 miles wide. It is volcanic in origin, and its generally rugged terrain, with a mean elevation of 360 feet above sea level, rises to Mount Bates and Mount Pitt.
Norfolk Island is a 3855ha, 8km x 5km, three million year old volcanic outcrop located in the South Pacific Ocean, approximately 1000 kilometres east of the Australian coast, 1670kms ENE of Sydney, 1065kms NNW of Auckland and 772kms SE of Noumea.
