Elias is Brazilian of Italian, Lebanese and Spanish descent. She was married to American trumpeter Randy Brecker, with whom she has a daughter, the singer/songwriter Amanda Elias Brecker, born in 1984. Eliane Elias (São Paulo, 19 de marzo de 1960) es una pianista brasileña de música clásica y popular, que se aproxima constantemente al jazz y a la fusión de este con las llamadas músicas del mundo, entre ellas la bossa nova de su país de nacimiento. Vive en Nueva York.
In 1982, Elias joined Steps Ahead, a band that evolved from loose sessions at the Greenwich Village club Seventh Avenue South — the venue co-owned by saxophonist Michael Brecker and his trumpet playing brother Randy, who would become Elias’ first husband.

That was the only time I did keyboards; I only played acoustic piano with Steps Ahead. I did make some recording on So Far, So Close and The Long Story.
