7 de jun. de 2016 · Cryptotermes has been poorly studied in Colombia, only three species have been recorded: Cryptotermes brevis (Walker 1853), Cryptotermes dudleyi Banks 1918, and Cryptotermes cylindroceps Scheffrahn and Křeček 1999, (Gile et al. 2011). The first two species are important pests.

Cryptotermes brevis is a species of termite in the family Kalotermitidae, commonly known as the West Indian drywood termite or the powderpost termite. It is able to live completely inside timber structures or articles made of wood such as furniture without any outside source of water.
The first record of the West Indian drywood termite Cryptotermes brevis (Walker, 1853) in the city of Corrientes (Argentina) is reported. Several C. brevis colonies were detected inside a local deposit, from wooden crates used for carrying fresh fruits.
