18 de mar. de 2015 · Exoftalmos es el término utilizado para describir los ojos saltones; ojos que sobresalen de su posición normal. También se conoce como proptosis. Con mucha frecuencia, esto puede ser un signo de una afección médica subyacente potencialmente grave, como el hipertiroidismo.
El exoftalmos puede ser confirmado con exoftalmometría que mide la distancia entre el ángulo lateral de la órbita ósea y la córnea; los valores normales son < 20 mm en blancos y < 22 mm en negros.
El exoftalmos es una patología que suele ir relacionada con otras enfermedades como el hipertiroidismo o la enfermedad de Graves. El síntoma más evidente es la protrusión de los ojos, es decir, ojos saltones, veamos otros síntomas, las causas y posibles tratamientos.
