Leben. Taylor stammte aus einer wohlhabenden, politisch linksgerichteten Familie. Seine Mutter war in den 1920er Jahren in der Kommunistischen Internationale (und außerdem eine Feministin (Suffragette) und Anhängerin freier Liebe, einer ihrer Liebhaber war der Kommunist Henry Sara, der auch Taylor als Vaterfigur beeinflusste) und ein Onkel war sogar Gründungsmitglied der KP in Großbritannien.
