Película basada en Trent's Last Case de Edmund Clerihew Bentley de 1913, una de las primeras novelas de detectives en que se utiliza la deducción para resolver un caso. El detective es el que da nombre a la novela: Philip Trent.
Lo malo de TRENT’S LAST CASE proviene de la casi insustancial entidad cinematográfica del relato. Bien sea por lo convencional de sus pretendidos personajes, su escaso sentido de la progresión, lo previsible de su trazado o, en definitiva, por que finalmente el espectador jamás se interesa sobre una película en la que sus responsables no les han propuesto ningún asidero para ello.
