History. The Kinkaid School was founded in 1904 by Margaret Kinkaid, making it the oldest non-sectarian co-ed independent school in Houston and second oldest in the state of Texas. From its strong academics to its numerous art programs to its award-winning sports teams, Kinkaid has made a lasting impact on the Houston community.
Kinkaid provides students with the necessary resources and tools to become educated, empowered, and inspired on their journey to adulthood. Our three school divisions strategically address student needs at every level and provide the support necessary to help them achieve their individual goals.
Dance. The well-balanced dance curriculum exposes students to ballet, modern, jazz contemporary, improvisation, world dance, and tap. Lower School students are introduced to rhythmic movement during physical education and a creative movement course in fifth grade. Dance courses are offered in seventh and eighth grade as fine arts credits.

Two semesters of this course satisfy the graduation requirement for an applied ne arts credit. Although students will write in multiple genres each year, the focus for the 2024-25 school year is poetry. In 2025-2026, the focus will be playwriting (fall) and screenwriting (spring). In 2026-2027, the focus will be ction.
