2 de abr. de 2019 · Don Bluth's animation in the film may never be hailed as masterful, but it was definitely an impressive attempt at something new and groundbreaking that became beloved by many fans. Xanadu is much more memorable than the 1980s Disney films that were released the same year, like Herbie Goes Bananas, The Watcher in the Woods and Popeye.

Near the end of the featurette, Don and fellow directing animators John and Gary resigned from the Disney studio to begin an animated feature, THE SECRET OF NIMH (1982). They also created the short animated fantasy sequence in XANADU (1982). Don Bluth Productions hoped to fully compete with Disney with a slate of animated features.
Don Bluth created the sequence which symbolises Sonny's tireless pursuit of his unattainable love, the unearthly Kira. He stays the chase while Kira transforms herself into birds and fish to evade him until against all odds she falls in love with him.
